OTLEY AC's Tom Lynch ran his first marathon at the weekend, the Halifax Marathon, which involved two loops of the half-marathon route which took place simultaneously.

The event was held entirely on roads having previously involved road and trail, and Tom finished in 20th place in 3:46:23.6.

He said: "It was perfect running weather with only a light breeze and not too sunny.

"It was my first marathon and I realised about halfway round after running the first half too fast that I had picked quite a challenging run for my first go. Nevertheless I was pleased to come in 20th place, despite completely going to pieces in the last 10 km.

The winner was Jason Cherriman (Leeds City) in time of 2:47:20 and the first female was Theresa Majeed in 3:34:54

Ian Broadbent ran the Sessay Swift 6k held on flat roads near Thirsk, where he finished in 26:54.

He said: " I've never run a 6k race before so does my time count as a PB? A really well marshalled race with and good facilities at Sessay Cricket Club, and I think if they could add about a mile on to this route it would be a far better one than currently used for the Harrogate League."

The winner was Jonathan Johnson (Harrogate Harriers) in 19:18 and the first lady in 13th place overall was Sharon Barlow (Ripon runners) in 21:29.

In the Eyemouth 5k Twilight Run, in Northumberland, Colin Best finished in 24:49.

He said: "I'm not a great fan of 5km, but thought I would give a go. A very pleasant sunny evening greeted the start on the seafront before running alongside the harbour. After that it was uphill for the next 2km."

The winner was Nathan Cox in 17:26 and the first female was Jill Mykura in 20:08.
