Ben Rhydding Ladies 3 Sutton Coldfield 4

Ben Rhydding welcomed Sutton Coldfield for the last game of the 2014-15 hockey season.

It was a closely-fought game with either side hoping for a top three finish. However, it was the visitors that secured third spot and Rhydding were ecstatic to finish fourth – their highest position ever.

Rhydding took their time getting into their rhythm and went a goal down inside 15 minutes. The response was quick. A defence-splitting pass fromTanisha Janzen put Jo Ellis clean through and she scored with a reverse-stick shot pass the goalkeeper to level the score.

Rhydding went 2-1 ahead after a quick free hit was fired into the circle by Ellis. Jen Wilson deflected the pass into the goal to the delight of the home side.

The visitors levelled before the break and despite continuous pressure early on in the second half from Ben Rhydding, the home side conceded two goals in quick succession.

The home side had fantastic support all afternoon but their followers were quietened by the two-goal blast.

Jodie Bridger managed to scramble the ball home after a short corner to make it 4-3 and the last few minutes were all Rhydding but they could not force an equaliser in the final minutes of a successful season.
