ILKLEY face a tough start to the new year as they steel themselves for a clash with North One East leaders Sheffield at Stacks Field on Saturday.

On the line will be the Dalesmen's 22-match unbeaten home record as they look to get 2015 off to a winning start.

It promises to be one of their toughest tests of the season, a fact acknowledged by coach Rhys Morgan, who has been enjoying a family break in Scotland.

"Sheffield are a good side and we know we have to be up for the game. We haven't always been at our best in the post Christmas period in recent years so it is important we get our preparations right."

In Morgan's absence, assistant coach Steve Graham took the squad for a gym session on Tuesday evening and went through some of their pre-match plans.

The selectors have yet to name a side, but talented centre James Crossley is unavailable so Alastair Monks is set for a recall.

Second row Steve Burns, who has been out of action all season after knee surgery, has been training and could come into contention.

"He's a strong player and a good character around the dressing room," said Morgan. "It will be good to get him back playing again."
