GUISELEY want another run in the FA Trophy.

The Lions, who reached the third round last season with victories over Histon, Halifax Town and Bradford Park Avenue, start their campaign on Saturday with a home third-qualifying round tie against Evo-Stik Premier Division Rushall Olympic.

Guiseley manager Mark Bower said: "It might not have the prestige of the FA Cup, but it is still a big competition with good prize-money and we want to progress."

The Lions banked £15,000 from their Trophy run in 2013-14, going out 3-0 at Aldershot Town in the third round proper, and with another £4,000 at stake this weekend, Bower knows that success in cups can go hand in hand with decent league form.

Walsall-based Rushall, who are 13th in their division, have shown erratic league form but it has been a different matter in the Trophy, where they have beaten Cambridge City 2-0 and Stratford Town 5-0.

They have also despatched Buxton 3-0 in the league and won 2-1 at Matlock Town last Tuesday, with Bower warning: "Rushall have players with Conference North experience and they have had some good results recently."

As for his own team, he said: "We might make one or two changes, but that will not weaken us as we have a quality squad."

Guiseley are second in Vanarama Conference North but their 3-2 defeat at home to leaders Barrow last weekend leaves the Furness club four points ahead of the Lions with two matches in hand.

Bower knows that gap will not easily be bridged, saying: "If anyone wins the league, they will have to finish above Barrow."

But he also knows that lady luck has not smiled on his team in their meetings with the Cumbrians this month, and that a 1-0 defeat away and a 3-2 setback at home does not tell half the story.

Bower was so disappointed with the official that he went to see him in the referee's room at half-time last Saturday, when his team were trailing 3-0.

"I was disappointed with a couple of decisions that he gave against us," admitted the Lions boss.

"I also wanted to remind him about Barrow's time-wasting, and we definitely deserved something over the two games against them."
