ILKLEY Cycling Club hosted their third annual cyclo-cross event on Sunday.

Following last year's huge success, organiser Kevin Barrett and his team worked hard over the last few weeks to create an extended course to cope with the expected increase in number of competitors.

Over 250 took part across the races, which ranged from under-eights through to the over-50s and a novices ride for those new to the sport.

In the under-eight girls category, Ilkley CC rider Francesca Macina finished a fine second – as did Frey Whiteside in the under-ten girls.

In the senior women's race, Britt Tate rode strongly throughout to take top honours for Ilkley CC in only her second cyclo-cross competition.

Ilkley also had success in the novices race, with John Garnett finishing in second place.

In the senior, V40 and junior race, first Ilkley CC rider home was Ben Hallworth in fourth place.

Ian Cliffe continues to gain some excellent results as he took eighth place overall, while top Ilkley CC youth rider was Harry Hunt with a fine seventh place.

The event was supported by the Olicana Cricket Club, with use of their pavilion and facilities, and the 3rd Ben Rhydding Scout Group, who assisted with parking and support.

All profits from the day's event are to be donated to the local Nell Bank Fund.

Also last weekend, Leanne Farrow and Henry King had successful rides in the National Hill Climb event at Stocksbridge near Sheffield.

Both finished in 11th place in the women's and men's championships respectively.
