Guiseley 1 Colwyn Bay 1

GUISELEY seem to have temporarily lost the knack of winning at home.

Tuesday night’s draw with Colwyn Bay followed defeats by Gainsborough Trinity and Gloucester City.

It isn’t something that should set the alarm bells ringing just yet, but boss Mark Bower will be hoping his men can find a winning formula at Nethermoor, quickly.

At least the focus wasn’t on poor defending as it was with the defeats by Gainsborough and Gloucester.

This time the problem was at the other end of the field where Guiseley failed to make the most of the chance sthat came their way.

However, the result was good enough to move them up to fourth place although they did need a little help from Oxford City who put a big dent in Boston United’s goal difference with a 7-2 away win.

That result was all the more remarkable given the fact that Oxford had lost 8-1 at home to Fylde on Saturday.

Guiseley had been hoping to get off to a good start against their visitors from North Wales, but they found themselves behind after just two minutes.

Tom Buckley’s free kick slipped through the hands of experienced goalkeeper Steve Dickinson – again deputising for Steve Drench – and nestled in the net.

If the Guiseley fans were fearing the worst their concern was misplaced. The home side were on level terms four minutes later.

The Colwyn Bay defence was still getting organised as Wayne Brooksby’s quickly-taken corner found the head of A dam Boyes. Josh Wilson, on loan from Halifax, was perfectly placed to apply the finishing touch.

Guiseley were indebted to Dickinson for keeping them on level terms with a fine point-blank stop from Obi Anorou. He was to follow up with two more smart saves later when the visitors threatened.

The home side kept pressing but were unable to unlock a stubborn Colwyn Bay rearguard. Neat work by Brooksby, Gavin Rothery, Boyes and Wilson just couldn’t provide the breakthrough.

Filipe Anjos and Joel Bembo-Leta were resolute in the Bay defence and they made many blocks and tackles to frustrate Guiseley’s search for a match-winning goal.
