FORMER skipper Jamie Sutton is returning to Otley.

The ex-Harlequins, Rotherham and Stade Domontois player led the first team at Cross Green in 2010-11, making 17 appearances and scoring six tries, which did not quite cancel out his seven yellow cards.

However, work commitments as a building surveyor then took him to the Midlands, where he featured for Sutton Coldfield.

Flanker Sutton, 29, who also captained Stade Domontois for two seasons, will be joined at Otley by another member of their 2010-11 first-team squad in loose-head prop Jason Moss.

The former Leeds Carnegie front-rower was part of a formidable pack at Bradford & Bingley, who were nevertheless relegated from National League Three North last season.

He played for Otley four seasons ago while on loan from the Bees, having previously played for Otley Saracens, and also signing for the Cross Greeners is prop Chad Harris, who was part of the Ilkley squad that won Yorkshire Division One and the Yorkshire Shield last season.

Another player who tasted glory in 2013-14 and is testing himself at a higher level is lock Jack Smith, who played for Yorkshire Division Four champions Old Otliensians.

Otley might have lost prop England Under-20 prop Paul Hill back to the Yorkshire Academy, but one coming in the opposite direction is fly half Ben Wood.

Three players have also been signed in the backs, including centre Tom Barnes from Bradford Salem, who also represented Otley last season.

Also putting their names on the dotted line are winger Kristian Sharples from Old Brodleians and centre or full back Andy Watson from Macclesfield.

Meanwhile, hooker Harry Wales, who was on the bench for Otley in May's Yorkshire Cup final against Wharfedale, has been promoted to the first-team squad from within.

The eight newcomers, plus Wales, compensate for the loss of not only Hill, but lock and former skipper Simon Willett to Wharfedale, where he joins backs coach James Doherty, and fly half Mark Ireland to Darlington Mowden Park.

Otley will step up their pre-season campaign on Saturday by defending their Roundhegians Tens title (1pm start) – they defeated Baildon in last year's final – before they travel to Lymm on Saturday, August 23.

Meanwhile, Otley Rugby Union Club have announced that there will be no increase in the price of season tickets for the new season.

Membership costs £50 and season tickets an additional £70 for under-65s and £30 for over-65s.

If no season tickets are purchased, then gate entry is £5 for under-65s and £3 for over-65s.

Under-18s will pay a subscription, depending on their age and status, to the treasurer of Otley Zebras for coaching and kit.
