ILKLEY Cycling Club youth rider Seb Cliffe had his best result of the 2014 season last week by winning silver in the British Cycling Yorkshire Region Grass Track Championships at Roundhay Park in Leeds.

On a near perfect evening, Cliffe rode both strongly and tactically in the three qualifying events, which consisted of a one-lap time trial, a one-lap sprint race (heats and final) and a two-lap scratch race.

Cliffe finished second in each event to gain second overall in the Yorkshire Region. He has been riding in the Monday Evening Grass Track League and through the summer progressed well in the under-ten group.

In the Under-14 Championship, Jonny Gill took a fine eighth place while, in the Senior Championship, Tim Gill took the bronze medal in the 5km race with Ian Cliffe taking fifth.

Ewan Farrow continues to record some very fast times in his build-up to this weekend’s National 25-Mile Time Trial Championship at Braithwaite in Cumbria.

Last weekend Farrow clocked his personal best over 25 miles (52min 38sec) in the VTTA open event near Dalton, York.

Nina Benson continues to record some impressive results. Last Thursday she finished first woman and sixth overall in the Sporting Pendle Forest 13-Mile Time Trial near West Marton in a time of 38:50.

Despite a snapped gear cable just before the start of last weekend’s LVRC Tour of the Wolds road race, Ged Millward finished fifth in the 40-49 age group.

An early break of three riders escaped and worked well to build a race-winning gap to the bunch.

With 12 miles to go Millward attacked and was joined by Giles Pidcock (Chevin). They worked well together to the finish, with Pidcock just taking the sprint for fourth.

In the earlier race (50-59), Neil Rollins made the break of nine riders early in the race. This group combined well and stayed together until the uphill finish, were Rollins took eighth place in the sprint.
