Aire-Wharfe League Waddilove Cup records tumbled as Ilkley relished the sun on their backs at Knaresborough, where more than 500 runs were scored to delight onlookers..

Jonathan Hughes smashed 26 fours and five sixes in racing to a club-record 189 in 144 balls.

He and opening partner Will Spivey, whose 106 was his maiden first-team century, put on 307, another club record.

It was six short of the league’s best opening stand, but is believed to be the record for the cup competition.

Knaresborough put up a brave response but Dave Pennett (4-58), Paul Dover (3-23) and Spivey (3-10) dismissed them still 110 runs behind.

Ilkley’s victory booked a home, second-round tie against Ben Rhydding, who were too strong for Thackley.

Laurie O’Connor (36) top-scored as Ben Rhydding’s 242-7 was shared around and, despite the efforts of Joe Ollerenshaw (40) and No 9 Adam Boocock (62no), Thackley went down by 36 runs.

Jamie Pickering (158no) shared in two century stands, putting on 139 with Josh Atkinson (52) and 134 with James Davies (50). With Ben Morley hitting a half-century, Otley set a mighty 370-4, which was far too much for New Rover.

Otley now face Menston, for whom Kyle Smith (79) starred as they won the all-Division Three battle with Woodhouse.

Expectations of a titanic, bragging-rights tussle at Brownberrie Lane were short-lived when Horsforth skittled out neighbours Hall Park for 25. Michael Lambert picked up 4-9, while Mahir Ali took 3-3, including two in successive balls.

Mark Gilliver and Ollie Hardaker took just 15 minutes to clinch the win and a home tie against Pool, who made short work of Harden.

Brian Jackson (78), Harrison Durkin (56) and Nadim Hussain (41) helped Guiseley to 283 before Marcus Brown, whose 5-28 twice included a hat-trick ball, dismissed Illingworth for 97. Guiseley now face the tie of the second round against Kirkstall.

Aussie Conor McInereney (61no) rounded off a good weekend for Rawdon by steering them past Calverley and a tie against Addingham, who defended their 181-4 total at Olicanian.

Jamie Hudson (53) and Dave Britton (36) raised Olicanian hopes with a 94-run stand after the first three wickets went down for nine but the remaining batsmen couldn’t sustain it against some accurate bowling by Ricky Palacio (4-33) and Rob Ellis (4-23).

Danny Bryan (59) starred as holders Burley started their defence with a seven-wicket win at Silsden but there is to be no cup glory for Steeton, who were dismissed for 75 in reply to Collingham’s 126.

Rehaan Butt (62) and Junaid Bashir (63) helped Bolton Villas to 231-7 but it wasn’t enough to deny in-form Adel, while a gutsy ninth-wicket stand of 56 between Neil Britton (29) and Chris Spivey (31no) couldn’t save Green Lane from going down to Colton.
