Dynamo surge to Wharfedale Triangle title as skipper Craig Bentham scores twice

Keighley Athletic 0 Ilkley Dynamo 2
Ilkley Dynamo became Wharfedale Triangle League champions for the first time in 33 years after another powerful away performance.
Now they will be looking to crown their season by lifting the League Cup too when they return to Keighley Athletic’s ground to play Thackley in the final on Sunday (2pm).
Needing a point to secure the title for the first time since 1981, Dynamo took their impressive unbeaten league run to 19 games with a workmanlike display.
Always on the offensive and encouraged by some good support, the team soon produced their consistent passing game in a match that was their 30th competitive outing of the season.
Another outstanding performance by the captain, Craig Bentham, who drove the team forward in a solid midfield role, helped to secure victory.
His fine strike after 25 minutes put Dynamo 1-0 ahead during a vital period in the game.
The defensive qualities of both Sam Jacomb and Liam Hudson stood out yet again, as their solid play helped to contain a Keighley team which had been defeated only once in their previous eight games. Shane Etherington, the Dynamo keeper, was alert to any danger posed by the home side who battled hard but were unable to penetrate the well-organiseddetermined defence.
Another excellent second half performance was rewarded when a fine strike forward by Ben Cater found Bentham, who headed home his 13th goal of the season to make it 2-0.
This triggered jubilant scenes for a Dynamo squad of players that has worked hard all through the season in an effort to claim the title.
Dynamo will be encouraged by the fact that on the two previous occasions when they won the league in 1979-80 and 1980-81, the team also won the League Cup. Could it be a lucky omen as they prepare for Sunday’s clash.
