Otley 45, Hull 0

A good performance against Stourbridge the previous week had put Hull in a good frame of mind for a vital SSE National League Two North win at Cross Green.

But they came up against a side on top of their form and, for all the visitors' imagination and strong running, they ran into an impregnable defence.

To make matters worse they were hit from every angle, the Otley forwards, to a man, giving them a working over while the pace of the home backs had them chasing shadows.

The first try came on four minutes. Otley, starting in their 22 swept their way upfield, full back Arnie Ellison coming up to find the gap, and when the softening up process began to take effect a flowing move from a line-out gave winger Nazir Karim a run-in at the corner 14 minutes later.

A turnover in their own half then bore fruit, Ellison careering through midfield and finding scrum half Stephen Depledge on his shoulder to race over, fly half Mark Ireland adding the conversion.

The important fourth try came on 28 minutes, centre James White, a threat all afternoon, powering his way over, Ireland’s conversion taking the score to 24-0, and the surprise was that there was no addition before half-time.

Ben Steele was the scorer when Hull were driven back from a line-out but when Hull lost replacement  Dominic Lespierre with a yellow card, they managed to keep their line intact until the ninth minute of his suspension when flanker Matthew Heaton finished off another superb move.

The final try, the seventh, came from a blind-side run from a scrum, lock Jack Scott-Paul coming up for an inside pass, Ireland converting all three.
