Ilkley Grammar School have been crowned as the Yorkshire Indoor Cricket Under-13 champions after some impressive performances at Headingley.

Representing Bradford, the Ilkley team began their campaign confidently with emphatic wins against Hull (85-35) and Sheffield (71-31).

These successes produced a top-of-the-league clash with Richmond School.

Ilkley’s confident batsmen registered 78-6 and pressur-ised their North Yorkshire rivals from the outset, taking three wickets in consecutive balls in the opening over of the innings.

Richmond recovered to 61-7, but the damage had already been done and Ilkley topped their group which earned them the right to play League B runners-up, York, in the semi-final.

Fulford School were no match for Ilkley who raced to 86-7 before dismissing the York winners for 40. In the other semi-final Richmond edged out Holmfirth in a thrilling last-ball finish to produce a North Yorkshire v West Yorkshire final.

Batting first, Richmond found scoring difficult as Ilkley’s bowlers and fielders discovered their very best form, taking wicket after wicket to reduce their rivals to 34 all out.

The batsmen approached their relatively simple task with caution and precision and eased past Richmond’s score in just 4.3 overs to claim the title.
