Ilkley urged to carry on winning as they face West Leeds in Yorkshire Shield
Ilkley’s rugby players switch their attention to the Yorkshire Shield on Saturday and are determined to maintain their winning run.
Fresh from the record-breaking 92-3 victory at Acklam, they take on Yorkshire Two side West Leeds at Stacks Field.
The Yorkshire Shield was identified, along with promotion from Yorkshire One, as the club’s main objectives for the season.
With five league games to go Ilkley are second in the table and well placed to secure North East One rugby for next season, but that isn’t going to be allowed to distract the players as they face West Leeds “Winning is a habit and it is important that we keep on doing that for as long as possible. We have had a good season but we haven’t achieved anything yet,” warned Morgan.
“It is important that we approach every game with the right mindset. West Leeds will be looking to cause an upset and we mustn’t let them halt our momentum.
“This season had been tough and there are big tests ahead, but there is nothing better than a winning run to keep morale high.”
Morgan is expected to field as near a full-strength team as possible.
One player who will be missing is second row Pete Small who has been a tower of strength in the line-out this season.
His place in the engine room is set to go to new Australian recruit Nick Carolan who made his debut at Acklam.
