Kevin Holsgrove the hero with last-gasp Guiseley winner
Guiseley 1, Vauxhall Motors 0
Kevin Holsgrove hit a dramatic late winner at Nethermoor as Guiseley banked another three points in the Conference North.
Despite their last-gasp victory, the Lions remain outside the top ten in 11th place. But they are now just nine points off the play-off zone and have six games in hand on Solihull Moors, who currently occupy fifth spot, the last play-off place.
It was a mainly frustrating afternoon for Guiseley against their determined visitors, although there were chances for both sides.
The visitors may have announced that they are withdrawing from the league at the end of the season but they obviously have not lost any of their desire on the pitch.
Lloyd Ellams could have given them an early lead but he shot straight at Steve Drench when either side of the home keeper would have resulted in a goal.
The Lions were also threatening and Wayne Brooksby even had the ball in the net but his strike was ruled out for offside.
Brooksby played Holsgrove in but his shot was smothered by Motormen keeper Zac Jones, while a later Holsgrove effort beat Jones but hit the bar.
Michael Potts, on as a 78th-minute substitute for Jake Lawlor, sent in a shot that took a deflection but Jones still managed to get a hand to it and steer the ball away from his net.
The late show came when the Lions forced a corner in the last minute of the five added on. The flag-kick was half cleared but only as far as Holsgrove, who drilled a shot past Jones.
Guiseley boss Mark Bower was delighted by the outcome and said: “We left it very late but it was a strange game. Early on it could have been 3-2 or 2-0 to them.
“In the second half I thought we dominated and if we had made better decisions in the final third we would have made it more comfortable for ourselves.
“But the lads keep on going and it’s a testament to their fitness levels and the character.
“The way the pitch was didn’t help but that was not the reason why we were so poor in the final third.”
