Guiseley will be hoping for a little bit of assistance from Bradford Park Avenue this weekend, and they could do them a favour in return.

The Lions host Vauxhall Motors at Nethermoor on Saturday – above Avenue on goal difference only – while a few miles down the road, Avenue’s visitors will be the team one place above the Lions, Colwyn Bay.

Guiseley manager Mark Bower was glad of the proximity between the clubs this week as it gave him the chance to watch Avenue host the Motor-men on Monday night.

He said: “They are a good side but if we play well it is a game we can win.

“I hope we play better early doors than we did on Tuesday (2-1 win against Leamington) and then we can get at them and cause them problems.

“We will take the win from the midweek game, even though we were far from our best. We had to grind it out but it was an important result.”

Kevin Holsgrove scored in the midweek win in his fist appearance at Nethermoor since his return on loan from Conference Premier outfit FC Halifax Town. The shot took a deflection but it was on target.

Guiseley are looking to build on taking seven points from the last available nine and put another long run together. They had suffered three defeats before the weather interruptions.

Bower says his side will not take Vauxhall lightly, and with good reason as they managed to nullify Avenue last time out and beat Histon 4-0 last month – who held Guiseley to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

The Motormen are playing for pride only from here on in though as they have informed the Conference they will be withdrawing from the league at the end of the season due to financial reasons.
