The wet weather is proving to be a real drain on Guiseley’s finances.

The Lions have not played at Nethermoor since their 2-2 draw with Altrincham on December 21.

Their last four home matches have all been washed out, and now officials are hoping for a break in the weather.

The Lions are due to play two Skrill North home games against Worcester City on Saturday and Harrogate Town on Tuesday and don’t want further postpone ments.

Chairman Phil Rogerson said: “I cannot remember such an exceptionally wet period.

“The pitch just hasn’t had chance to recover. Hundreds of gallons of water have been pump-ed off the pitch and we have also had it verti-drained to ease the problem.

“I really hurts the finances when you have no gate receipts coming in.”

Guiseley have had a total of five league games and a West Riding County Cup semi-final at Eccleshill called off in the past five weeks. Manager Mark Bower admitted: “It is frustrating but we cannot control the weather.

“All we can do is keep preparing for games as normal. Having Saturday home matches called off is bad for the club as they bring in the best gates.

“Players find it disappointing when they have to train or go shopping with their wives on a Saturday rather than play.”
