Newly-promoted Yorkshire produced a stunning performance to win the Premiership title in the Cadet County Championships.

Their team included the promising Ilkley player Kate Nixon who produced an impressive performance to defeat the England No 1 Denise Payet in her side’s win over Middlesex.

There was little hint of what was in store as Yorkshire took on Lincoln-shire in their first match and drew 5-5.

The team then embarked on an unbeaten run which was triggered by a fine 6-4 win over Surrey.

Harry Dai beat Diego Freitas 3-1 in the final match to secure victory.

Next up were Middlesex and Yorkshire triumphed 8-2.

Nixon’s victory was a key element of a success that took Yorkshire into the second day full of confi-dence.

Their first opponents on the Sunday were the only other unbeaten team, Cleveland.

Yorkshire came out on top 8-2 with Shayan Shiraj winning a nail-biting match against Kaine Macdonald 3-2 and Gauri Duhan beating Sophie Barlow.

Next up were Lancashire with Yorkshire winning 7-3.

James Rule got the team off to a great start and they never looked back.

Yorkshire’s young guns were really firing and a 7-3 victory over Sussex sent them into the title decider against Staffordshire full of confidence after a run of five straight victories. There was simply no stopping York- shire.

They won the first four matches on their way to an emphatic 9-1 victory.
