Doncaster 8 Ben Rhydding 1

Ben Rhydding’s weakened team were given a hammering by title-chasing Doncaster in the Men's North Premier League.

With the spine of their side and two full backs missing it was always going to be a tough test for the visitors and so it proved.

Rhydding started brightly enough and they almost took the lead. Callum Franks’ spectacular sliding deflection hit a post.

Doncaster broke away to open the scoring after a penalty corner for Rhydding was cleared.

The home side quickly added a second and were in comfortable control.

The lead was stretched to 4-0 before Will Musgrave was able to find George Sweeting in the circle who delivered an inch- perfect cross for Franks to finish.

Battling Rhydding were just beginning to mount strong pressure when a tenuous penalty-stroke award enabled Doncaster to net a fifth goal.

Rhydding enjoyed a much stronger second half but despite some beautiful mid- field play from Elliot Dowley and Kieran Borrett, they lacked penetration.

An aerial ball caused confusion between Danny Foster and Callum Connor and Doncaster scored a sixth goal.

They added a seventh from a neat corner routine and the final insult was an eighth goal from a penalty corner with a scorching drag flick into the roof of the net.

Doncaster had only got into Rhydding’s D three times in the second half at this stage and scored each time.

They also scored all of their corners. This is the measure of a team that belongs in the National League.
