Ilkley return to action with a Yorkshire Division One derby at Keighley on Saturday and head of rugby Rhys Morgan is anxious that his men maintain their focus.

Table-topping Ilkley were in fine form before the Christmas break and they need to ensure they do not slip up against their old foes.

Keighley are currently battling at the opposite end of the table after being relegated from North East One last season.

But Morgan believes they are a more able side than their results suggest and wants his men to show the same intensity which has seen them win their last seven league encounters.

They have also prevented North Ribblesdale and Wath from scoring in their last two outings.

North Ribblesdale, traditionally a bogey side, were defeated 17-0 and Wath were beaten 24-0.

Morgan has been delighted with the intensity of his team’s defensive play and credits his assistant Steve Graham for the work he has done in this key area.

Morgan said: “Steve has been hammering home the message that even when we are winning comfortably it is important for everybody to ensure they make their tackles.

“I have also been pleased that we have addressed our habit of giving away unnecessary penalties. It certainly makes a big difference if you cut out the back chat and treat the official with respect.”

One player who will miss the trip to Keighley is young winger Paul Petchey. The selectors have both Ed Bown and Andy Malley waiting for their chance to shine along with the versatile Tom Collard.
