Ilkley must get their tactics right
9:00am Thursday 31st October 2013 in Sport
Ilkley’s head of rugby Rhys Morgan will have to get his thinking cap on for Saturday’s trip to York.
The Clifton Park side are led by the former Otley and Yorkshire coach Peter Clegg who is renowned for his tactical planning.
“He’s always looking at the opposition and seeking a weakness he can exploit,” said Morgan.
“Peter is good at developing a game plan that poses problems for the opposition and we have to be ready for that.
“York have already shown this season that they are ambitious to get out of Yorkshire Division One and have been playing some good rugby.
“It will be a real test and it is up to me and Stevie Graham to ensure we get our tactics right.”
Morgan was pleased with the way his side bounced back from their disappointing defeat at Old Brod-leians with a 55-7 victory over Pontefract.
Now he wants to build on that success to keep the pressure on the teams above Ilkley in the congested league table.
The Dalesmen are still waiting to hear when Alastair Monks’ discip- linary hearing will be after his sending off against Pontefract.
They were hoping it would be tonight but it is currently listed for next week which means he will not be able to play at York.
With Craig Barker still sidelined with concussion, Morgan’s son Elliott, who impressed earlier in the season before going to university, is one of the options to deputise if Monks is ruled out.
