Guiseley manager Steve Kittrick is fuming over dismissal of Craig Hobson
Colwyn Bay 2, Guiseley 2
Ten-man Guiseley were stung by an injury-time equaliser as former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair’s Colwyn Bay pulled off a remarkable comeback last Saturday in Skrill North.
The Lions had taken a first-half lead when stand-in skipper Danny Ellis fired home from inside the area following an 18th-minute corner.
And Guiseley doubled their advantage just after the hour mark when Craig Hobson opened his account, heading in a Gavin Rothery cross.
But Hobson picked up a second yellow card just seven minutes later and was dismissed. Sinclair’s men took heart and went in search of their first point of the campaign.
Paul Ennis curled a free-kick out of Guiseley keeper Steve Drench’s reach five minutes from time, and then a blocked shot from Cameron Darkwah just into injury time was helped in by Rob Hopley to give the home side a draw.
Hobson’s sending off proved the turning point, and Kittrick was not a happy man after the final whistle.
He said: “We were 2-0 and cruising and the sending off was something and nothing.
“I have been to see the referee and he says it was intent. If that was intent I have never seen anything as stupid in my life.
“It is the worst refereeing display that I have seen for a long, long time at this level, and if there was an assessor here I would just like to see what he has marked him on and see what he has got to say because it was ridiculous.”
Kittrick added: “We go down to ten men and we reorganise into two banks of four and one up top and we looked all right; we were dealing with it.
“They were bombarding the area so I put two bigger players on for the last couple of min-utes.
“The free kick that he gave for the final goal was preposterous.
“I don’t get on to referees because I have a hard enough job but I have just been in there and spoken to him, and if he speaks to the players like he speaks to me . . .
“I have just asked him how old he was and he said he is 29, and I said ‘Show me some respect because I am a lot older than you and don’t talk down to me’.
"But that is what it has been all day. It has been about him and that is one of the poorest examples of refereeing that I have seen.”
Guiseley: Drench, Rea, Ellis, Ible, Meynell, Scott, Potts, Brooksby (Lawlor), Rothery (Harris), Hobson, Marsh (Priestley). Unused substitutes: Montgomery, Burgess.
