Masterful display by Ilkley swimmers

Ilkley Swimming Club achieved huge success competing in the Annual ASA Team T30 Challenge.

This arduous event involves swimmers pitting themselves against the clock to see how many lengths they can swim in 30 minutes The Club entered 19 Master Swimmers (Swimmers over the age of 24 years) and triathletes who completed their swimm- ing training with the club.

Best Performers were David Owen (25-29 yrs) and Tim Ashelford (45-49 yrs) who both swam over 2Km in the 30 minutes and coming fourth in their individual race.

The club also entered the team event and came away with an impressive display of medals.

They took gold in the mens 120-159 years event through Tim Ashelford, Martyn Webster, Richard Brown and David Owen, then claimed silver in the mixed 120-159 years team race thanks to Sue Harris, Robbie Grechcini, Martyn Webster and Richard Brown.

There was a silver for Ilkley in the mixed 160-199 years event where Karen Graham, Lynda Polllard, Tim Ashelford and David Owen combined.

There was also a bronze in the men’s 160-199 years team event from Richard Mitchell, Richard Leach, Adrain Bastow and David Pringle.

These results definitely put Ikley’s Masters swimmers’’ and Triathletes on the national map.
