Aireborough 61 York RI 0

What appears to be a convincing eleven-try win for Aire masks a spirited display by a struggling York outfit who made the home side work hard for their tries many of which were scored out wide leading to only three conversions.

Aire opened the scoring in the fifth minute when a good take from a kick by full back Tom Holdswoth saw him put scrum half and Aires man of the match Ollie Catherall in space and outpace the defence to score in the corner.

Five minutes later saw Catherall take a quick tap from a penalty and put centre Nick Holdsworth in enough space for him to run at the defence and score a well taken try Aire returned to the York 22 from the kick-off and some good work by the Aire pack saw them create pressure for Catherall to exploit with a well weighted kick through being reclaimed by him to score.

The 13th minute saw second rower Mark Howorth make a break and release winger Iain Craven to sprint in at the corner.

Good forward pressure produced tries for hooker and captain Nick Jackson and No 8 Chris Blackswaw before the break.

Aire had a 32-0 lead at half time and the second half saw Tom Holdsworth moving to scrum half and Catherall to full back.

The forwards maintained the pressure producing two further tries for Blackshaw.

The sixty fifth minute saw a long range Catherall try and five minutes later he linked up again to release centre Gareth Poole for a powerfully taken try.

A good individual try by stand off Matt Osborn completed the scoring for the afternoon.

Aire travel to Bramley Phoenix next Saturday
