Ilkley coach Rhys Morgan, above, is happy to ring the changes and adapt his tactics to keep his side in the thick of the Yorkshire Division One title race.

As his team prepare for Saturday’s trip to lowly Dinn- ington, Morgan spelt out the need to manage his playing resources wisely.

There was some criticism on a rugby website messageboard that his team was “one dimensional” after their 20-13 win over Bridlington last week.

Morgan said: “Against Brid lington we used our forward strength and kept the game tight, but if people look at our record they will see we have also been prepared to be more expansive. We have scored four tries or more in most of our matches.

“The important thing is to choose the right tactics for the right match and conditions. As we are now coming across heavier grounds it requires us to play in a more conservative way than perhaps we did when it was warmer and the pitches firmer at the start of the season.”

Morgan has also confirmed that he will continue to rotate his players. “We need to keep them fresh and that means we will not always play our strongest side.

“Already this season we have rested Tulie Makaafi on a couple of occasions and it is important to avoid players becoming tired and jaded.

“We are fortunate this year to have depth in our squad and that showed again last week when Danny Whitelaw made his debut on the wing and second team skipper Pete Shanks played at inside centre.”

Morgan will have to make changes to his pack for the Dinnington clash.

Ollie Renton has an injury and is expected to miss out along with fellow back row man Nathan Bland who is unavailable.

In the backs, JH Johnson is poised for a return while Steve Nolson, who joined the club from Aireborough in the summer and has made a bright start, is available for selection again.
