The Lord Mayor of Bradford paid tribute to staff, pupils and parents of a high-flying primary school following its outstanding Ofsted inspection.
Coun Robin Owens said of Burley Oaks Primary School, Burley-in-Wharfedale: "It's pretty clear that staff, pupils and parents all work well as a team and that they have an experienced head teacher at the helm giving good direction.
"The children are very well behaved and the staff are very enthusiastic. This enthusiasm is obviously reflected in Ofsted's findings."
Coun Owens was visiting the school to congratulate children and staff on receiving the award.
Dressed in traditional robes and regalia he was given a tour of the 325-strong school by head teacher Roy Pallas who introduced him to pupils and staff.
Cllr Owens said: "I was really impressed with what I saw at the school. It has a very low absence rate - both teachers and pupils and it's obvious that people are happy to be there.
"I go around a lot of schools which have been given good inspections but the children at Burley Oaks were very well behaved and when you wanted them to respond they did so. Getting that balance right must be tremendously difficult but it was quite clear that these were bright, eager children.
"Quite a number of the teaching assistants at the school are parents as well and it is clear that this parental invovlement is very successful and works well."
During his tour, Coun Owens presented representatives of the school council with a special plaque to mark their success during a special assembly.
He also gave Mr Pallas a glass paperweight and the staff a certificate of achievement.
The school, on Langford Lane, opened seven years ago and since then has received two excellent reports from Ofsted.
In the latest report inspectors praised the commitment of the staff and the excellent curiculumn provided within the school.
Officers also made special mention of the dedication of teaching assistants and the special ethos within the school which, they said, ensured that pupils felt motivated and well cared for.
Coun Owens said:"It's pretty clear that the children are good and able and the parents are supportive. The teachers are very committed and are managed very well. There is a real policy of team work and no one part could do well without the other. They work well together under the leadership of an experienced and supportive headteacher.
"I enjoyed my visit very much and wish them all the best for a positive future."
