TO reply to the letter from John Copperthwaite (January 1) my boycott of Otley Sainsbury’s is about asking the supermarket to stick to their stated principle of “sourcing with integrity”. To my way of thinking selling produce grown by Israeli settlers who have illegally occupied and farmed Palestinian land fails to meet Sainsbury’s own ethical principles.

As reported in the same edition in the story “Shopper steps up campaign on food”, Greg Mulholland has agreed to write on my behalf regarding dates on sale in Sainsbury’s from supplier Mehadrin, a company known to trade illegal settlement produce as general Israeli produce. My boycott will continue until Sainsbury’s listen and stop selling such products or at least label them accurately as from Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land, so consumers know what they are buying.

I applaud John Copperthwaite’s stand against buying products from both Israel and China, and agree that other concerned shoppers should write to the chief executive officer of their regular supermarket so that reasonable concerns about what is on sale are heard and given a serious response.
