Charlotte Williams may still be in primary school but she is already making her mark on Leeds.

The Yeadon schoolgirl has been elected Leeds Children’s Mayor for a year thanks to her vision for the city.

Charlotte was voted into the role after winning support for her manifesto – Life Cycle of Leeds – which aims to promote cycling to children.

As well as promoting cycling by improving access to places like schools, leisure centres and the city centre, Charlotte also proposes to provide safe areas to lock-up bikes, and ‘borrow-a-bike’ schemes. The youngster has also considered how she could raise money for the project.

All too often criticism is heaped unfairly on children and young people – but Charlotte is a shining example of how thoughtful and engaged many youngsters are today.

She is not just children’s mayor but also a fantastic ambassador for youngsters around the city.
