A FIRM based on the edge of Keighley has become the latest brewery to mark the Tour de France by bringing out a celebratory new beer.

The one-off creation put together by Goose Eye Brewery has been fittingly named Maillot Jaune, which means Yellow Jersey.

The beer, now available locally, is a 4.2 per cent blonde summer ale.

Goose Eye Brewery company director, Dave Atkinson, said: "We're making the beer available in all the places the Tour is going through – locations like Keighley, Haworth, Stanbury Addingham and Silsden.

"Just as the Tour is international, the hops used in Maillot Jaune are from over the place, including America and New Zealand."

In April, Naylors Brewery, in Cross Hills, announced its own concoction which is called Saddle Sore. This is a limited edition premium blonde ale, manufactured using French hops. It was expected to be available in pubs from mid-June onwards.

Meanwhile, Keighley brewery Timothy Taylor has been promoting sausages flavoured with the company's own Le Champion beer.

Oxenhope-based Bridgehouse Brewery has produced its own beer, called On Yer Bike! It has been described as a 3.6 per cent traditional bitter, with a "malty taste and a modern spicy twist".
