Events will help to unite Burley-in-Wharfedale
A church festival, which aims to bring villagers closer together, is being held in Burley-in-Wharfedale next month.
The week-long event, organised by St Mary's the Blessed Virgin Church, will see locals of all ages invited to sports events, duck races, parties and music shows at various venues throughout the village.
The festival, which is the first of its kind in Burley, was thought up by members of the church who are keen to encourage parishioners and villagers to socialise together.
Rev Michael Burley said: "The aim is to have fun together, socialise and share fellowship. We also hope to use this occasion to invite people to a Mission Service and lunch where the speaker will be the Bishop of Bradford."
The fun starts on Sunday, June 15 with a festival service at the church at 9.45am. At 2pm there will be a duck race along the river bank followed by tea and games on the Village Green. The day will end with choral evensong at 6pm.
On Monday, June 16, there will be a toddlers lunch party in the Garden Room/café at noon and a family treasure hunt starts from the Malt Shovel pub at 6.30pm.
On Tuesday, June 17 at 7.30pm, there will be a film held on the big screen at the Parish Centre for teenagers.
The following day, there will be a storytelling session for schools at the church, tea served by the Mothers' Union at the Parish Centre at 2.30pm and a music event at St Mary's Church at 7pm.
A service will be held at 9.30am on Thursday, June 19, with a pre-school event at the Parish Centre at 10am. At 7.30pm there will be a quiz night at the Malt Shovel.
The next day, Friday, June 20, an after-school party will be held at the Parish Centre at 4pm where children will get the chance to meet the Bishop of Bradford. Later that evening (7.30pm) there will be a Wine and Wisdom' event with the Bishop at the Parish Centre.
On Saturday 21st at 10am, coffee will be served at the Parish Centre. At 7.30pm there will be a ceilidh at the Queen's Hall. Events come to a close on Sunday, June 22, with a service at the church at 10.30am, a Taize workshop at 4pm, where people will learn to sing Taize music, and a Taize Service at 6.30pm.
