Appeal to find family in medal mystery

A former Army medic has issued a plea to reunite a World War One medal with the family of its Bradford recipient.

The man, who does not want to be named, is hoping to trace the relatives of Pte Arthur Wootten, who was awarded the honour.

Pte Wootten, of 113th Field Ambulance, died on March 27, 1918, aged 21, and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery in France. He was the son of James and Annie Wootton, who lived on St Michael’s Road, Bradford.

The former serviceman, who came into possession of the medal, said: “I want it to be returned to his family.

“I was given the medal because I served in the same regiment, but it’s not mine. “I know the names of his parents and that they lived in Bradford, so I hope there’s someone who can help me find his family.”
