Continental street market festivities

Ilkley Summer Festival’s annual continental street market returns to The Grove for three days this weekend.

Stalls selling treats and goods from across Europe and beyond, as well as those closer to home, are expected to turn the prime shopping street into a lively market, starting from tomorrow.

The Grove will be pedestrianised until after the market has left on Sunday.

Although the weather has been far from Mediterranean this summer, warmer temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.

To complete the atmosphere, there will be live music from the Ilkley Bandstand in The Grove on all three days.

It will be the turn of Marc Otway and Abi, Amy Louise, Mik Artistik and The Emily Muirhead Band to provide the musical accompaniment for tomorrow’s launch day.

The Glen Folk, McEnrow and The Ball Boys plus Street Legal will play at the bandstand on Saturday.

UK Foo Fighters and other musicians yet to be confirmed will be on the bill for the final day of the market.

Other summer festival events this week include an Argentine Tango Summer Ball at the Clarke Foley Centre in Cunliffe Road tomorrow night, and afternoon teas in the Winter Garden from 11am to 4pm on Sunday.

More events are planned this month, including the Diamond Dolce Vita open-air cabaret on August 18, Diamond Jubilee Matinee at the King’s Hall on August 22 and Last Night of the Proms finale concert in The Grove on August 25.

An open studio for art lovers, at No 4 Back Nelson Road, will be taking place from 2pm to 4.30pm on Sunday and August 19.
