Horsforth School has received national recognition for its GCSE results – described as some of the best in the country.
The Specialist Science School has won high praise for its results in 2011 which put it in the top ten per cent of non-selective schools in England.
It has been commended for the proportion of top grades achieved by its pupils in 2011 – and other schools have been told they could learn from its success.
Horsforth is shown to be among the top achievers in new rankings just released by SSAT, the representative body for schools.
Its ranking in the top ten per cent was based on the percentage of students achieving 5+ A*-A GCSEs, including English and mathematics. At least 19 per cent of students were required to achieve this in order for a school to be included – and Horsforth’s score was 24 per cent.
Sue Williams, chief executive of SSAT, said: “Horsforth Specialist Science School should be congratulated for its stunning achievement in securing some of the best GCSE results in the country.
“Horsforth Specialist Science School has proved itself to be one of the best schools in the country at securing superb GCSE outcomes for its students. There is plenty that other schools could learn from Horsforth Specialist Science School’s success.
“These results are testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, teachers and leadership team at the school, and a vindication of their belief in high expectations, good teaching and ambition for every young person.
“Successful schools like Horsforth Specialist Science School understand the value of data, such as these attainment measures, in helping to ensure all young people perform to the very best of their ability. The attainment measures show how schools are focused on their performance and the outcomes of all their students.”
