Mud, mud, glorious mud for Guides camp

Hundreds of Guides and Brownies braved difficult conditions to enjoy a choice of more than 30 outdoor activities at the Girl Guiding Wharfedale Jubilee Camp.
About 100 Guides and Brownies from Girl Guiding Wharfedale set up camp on the very muddy fields at Bramhope Scout Camp Site last week.
A further 50 younger members slept in the indoor accommodation for the two nights, before 150 others joined them for a ‘big activity day’ on Saturday.
Activities on offer ranged from archery, bungee running, beadcraft and climbing to falconry, pancake making, wood burning, and zumba dancing. African drums also proved very popular.
A spokesman said: “A barbecue was cooked up followed by a rousing campfire to rival the Jubilee beacons.
“Day visitors went home, and over-nighters hoped for dry weather on Sunday when they would have to take down tents on already muddy ground. They were lucky and the sun shone – with the whole event being voted a success.”
