Charity shop opens book section after break-in

A charity shop has opened a books section just weeks after suffering hundreds of pounds worth of damage in a break-in.

The Sue Ryder Care shop on Cowpasture Road had to pay out for repairs after burglars hunting for valuables broke doors at the shop on March 23.

The thieves stole costume jewellery from a display case, but left the charity, which supports hospices such as Manorlands in Oxenhope, with a bill to repair the damage.

The shop has now launched its new first-floor section selling a range of secondhand books, replacing a secondhand bridal wear section.

l National police crime statistics recorded 43 crimes in Ilkley in March, including ten burglaries.
