A group of cyclists will endure a day trip with a difference in a bid to raise vital funds for charity.

Led by Andrew Hibbert, from Ilkley, and his brother Peter, the group will cycle from Leeds to London – a total of 230 miles – in a single day, to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

And they will be accompanied throughout the gruelling trip by fellow cyclists and friends Mark Romanowski, Richard Harmer and JD Cycles racer Johnny Ratcliffe.

“This ‘in a day’ challenge will be taking place on Saturday, May 26, and will be raising money for the RNLI in memory of our Dad, Colin, who suddenly passed away a few months ago,” said Andrew.

“He, as a keen sailor, strongly believed in this very worthwhile charity.

“We have a target of £2,000 in our heads, but if we can extend that figure then it will be more than worth all the effort.”

So far, the group have raised more than £1,100.

All the riders are very experienced and Mr Ratcliffe believes they will complete their task.

“We are confident about being able to complete the route, which is the same as the Emmerdale team did, but there will be a long night time period in which there is the danger of sleep taking over,” he said.

“To counter this, we have decided to sing and tell each other jokes.”

The cyclists are inviting people to ride sections of the route with them and have set up a sponsorship page at justgiving.com/leeds london.

They have been supported by Ilkley-based JD Cycles, who also have a sponsorship form in their shop.
