Healthcare funds assessment call

5:10pm Sunday 22nd April 2012

People wanting to request an assessment of their eligibility for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding have been urged to contact NHS Bradford and Airedale before the expiry of new deadlines.

NHS Continuing Healthcare is a package of assistance provided outside of hospital, arranged and funded by the NHS, for people with ongoing healthcare needs.

It is meant to be available for people who have complex medical conditions that require a lot of care, people who need highly-specialised nursing support and individuals nearing the end of their lives who have conditions that are rapidly worsening and may be terminal.

A spokesman for NHS Bradford and Airedale said: “On March 15 the Department of Health announced the introduction of deadlines for new cases which require assessment of eligibility for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding.

“The deadlines apply to previously unassessed periods of care, which occurred in the time periods April 1, 2004, to September 30, 2007, October 1, 2007, to March 31, 2011, and April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2012.”

The deadline for the first two of the above care periods is September 30 this year. The deadline for the care period of April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2012, is March 31, 2013.

People should contact the Continuing Healthcare team at NHS Bradford and Airedale on (01274) 423003 for further information on how to make a request for assessment of eligibility.
