Bosses at a brewery are celebrating after their three-month-old beer scooped a national award.

Ilkley Brewery’s MJ Pale won gold at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) National Craft Beer in Keg Competition 2012 – the first time one of the firm’s products has claimed the award.

MJ Pale beat 32 national breweries and 60 other brews. The overall ‘champion of champions’ will be announced next month.

Stewart Ross, one of Ilkley Brewery’s directors, said: “To gain national recognition in the form of a gold award from SIBA for our new MJ Pale is tremendous.

“The beer is only three-months-old and is already being served in 40 bars in Leeds, Manchester, York, London and Bristol.”

MJ Pale is one of three new beers from the brewery’s MJ Artisan Ales range which was unveiled in November 2011.

MJ Summit, an India Pale Ale, and MJ Fortis, a stout, also feature in the range.
