When David Waterhouse’s nephew was born with a dangerous heart condition he was saved by medics at the Leeds General Infirmary’s heart unit.

Aged just a few days old the baby underwent recon-structive heart surgery and, thanks to the treatment, he is now a healthy toddler.

David, 48, who co-owns the property letting agency Angus Roberts, was so impressed with the unit that he has just completed a skydive from 15,000 feet to raise more than £1,000 for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.

“Despite having such massive problems at birth the little boy is now perfectly healthy,” said David. “He is one of the lucky ones in that he has been given a clean bill of health.”

The Ilkley businessman decided on a skydive a year ago, but had to lose two stone in weight before being allowed to take part.

And after losing weight with the aid of Weight Watchers he finally launched himself from the plane last weekend.

With more than £1,000 raised so far David thinks he will probably take part in more fundraising to help the unit. People can still donate by going to the website www.justgiving.co./David-Waterhouse
