Church-goers will be giving their hearts away to shoppers in the run-up to Valentine’s Day as part of an ongoing Love Ilkley campaign.
Visitors to the town centre on Saturday will receive a red, foil-covered chocolate heart, tagged with a message of love, as a gift from members of All Saints’ Church.
The year-long campaign aims to show that the church cares for the people of Ilkley and surrounding areas. Gifts have included free candles at Christmas and DVDs.
Future presents will include sunflower seeds in spring, bottles of water in summer and time to tend elderly people’s gardens in the autumn.
The Rev Lee Townend, of All Saints’, said: “What better way to tell an elderly, housebound person that God cares for them by doing something loving for them – who knows where that might lead?
Likewise giving away chocolate hearts at Valentine’s is a simple way of saying ‘God loves you’.”
