Even movie superstars are not immune from the recession as a funding crisis threatens to put a brake on the glittering career of Ilkley actress Georgie Henley.
Georgie, 13, was transformed from an Ilkley Upstagers amateur performer into an international film star by being awarded the part of Lucy Pevensie in The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, and the follow-up: The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
But this week Walt Disney Studios announced that they will not be co-producing and co-financing the adaptation of CS Lewis’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the third of the Narnia films. This leaves Walden Media, the other big force behind the films, to find another partner if the film is to make the screens in 2010.
With no funding deal in place, it’s now not known when production may begin and whether the current Narnia cast will be able to return.
Disney cited “budgetary and logistical” reasons for its decision to withdraw its funding.
