A RETIRED prison governor who has spent 35 years behind bars with some of Britain's most notorious prisoners will speak in Rawdon about her career.

Veronica Bird rose from a desperately poor and tough upbringing to become a respected prison governor and to be honoured with an OBE.

The talk will take place at Rawdon Community Library at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 31. Admission is free for Aireborough Civic Society members or £4 for non-members.
