SIR - In his letter of April 9, re the Brexit vote, Colin Durkin states that of the 32m who didn't vote, 19m couldn't be bothered or didn't care to.

He goes on to say that of those 19m I'm guessing that quite a lot were happy with the status quo.

I have to ask Colin to be a bit more specific and tell us how many 'quite a lot' is. He also says we can't call the result 'the will of the people'. Perhaps not, but the result was the will of those prepared to make an effort and use their vote. The Brexit vote resulted in one of the biggest turn-outs the UK has had for many many years. That's a fact, not a guess.

I stopped putting my faith in people like Colin 60 years or so ago when a certain Horace Batchelor cashed my postal order but failed to predict the final result of eight football matches. Why? He was just guessing.

I try to stick to facts these days, but if it's guessing games we're playing then allow me: 75per cent of the 19m that didn't vote would have voted to leave the EU. That's as good a guess as any made so far.
