ILKLEY Town Crier Isabel Ashman is helping to spread the word about a major event to tackle social isolation and loneliness being staged in Ilkley on Monday, April 30.

Thirty community groups from across Wharfedale will converge on the Winter Garden to mount an exhibition entitled Working Together, inviting visitors to discover how they can take part in a wide range of activities throughout the district.

The event, organised by Ilkley and District U3A in partnership with Bradford Community Action, is being supported by Councillor Steve Butler, Chairman of Ilkley Parish Council, who will give a speech of welcome.

This initiative to tackle the growing problem of loneliness follows publication of the Jo Cox Commission report in January.

On the morning of the exhibition, Isabel will be exercising her vocal chords again before the Winter Garden doors open to the public at 9.30 am. They close again at 1 pm.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available.
