SCHOOLCHILDREN from Ben Rhydding Primary School choir entertained guests at the recent Care and Wellbeing Cafe at St John's Church, Bolling Road, Ben Rhydding.

The Cafe has continued to go from strength to strength since its initial launch just over a year ago when it was formally opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford.

The next cafe takes place on Monday, March 19 when guests will be entertained by singer Ken Romano. Further sessions take place on Monday, April 16, Monday, May 21 and Monday, June 18. All sessions are dementia friendly and run from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

The aim of the Cafe is to promote social inclusion and prevent the social isolation of older people by enabling contact and friendship with others.

The Cafe which is free, provides entertainment and refreshments, with sandwiches provided by the Tivoli Cafe at Ben Rhydding.

Cafe organiser Andrea Pickersgill said: "We also provide a wide range of support and advice for older people and their carers. In addition we've also had a wide range of speakers including Age UK, NHS and Creative Support. We have an amazing team of volunteers from St Johns Parish Church and the local community who ensure that we provide a happy, uplifting afternoon for our more senior members of the local community

"At the last session we were fortunate enough to be entertained by the Ben Rhydding Primary School Choir who kindly sang some of the songs they were rehearsing for their visit to a huge singing event at the Manchester Arena. Afterwards the children mingled and chatted with our older members. This wonderful intergenerational event was thoroughly enjoyed by young and old alike."

Andrea added: "There is no need to book, just feel free to come along and join us at St Johns where you will be assured of a warm welcome.

"If you know of an older resident, family member or even a neighbour you feel would benefit from the sessions please do encourage them and invite them along to join this very friendly group."
