YOUNGSTERS took part in a series of workshops during a two day visit by a children’s poet, writer and storyteller.

Conrad Burdekin shared his expertise with pupils at The Froebelian, in Horsforth, during the school’s own literary festival.

He held writing sessions to inspire each and every child aged from three to eleven.

Known for books such as Supersonic Gran and other poems, and The Baked Bean Queen, the Wakefield-born author held writing workshops for each class.

Conrad said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the children at Froebelian. I have been visiting schools for over 10 years, sharing my stories and poems and inspiring children to believe that they, too, can become writers.”

Headteacher of Froebelian Catherine Dodds added: “Conrad has provided the perfect springboard for our inaugural Literacy Festival. The children have engaged brilliantly in the sessions and the staff have been impressed by the impact the workshops have had on the children’s writing. Conrad’s enthusiasm for writing is infectious.”
