OTLEY Cycle Club has presented an award to a young rider they believe could go all the way.

Jack Coates, the winner of the club's Road Race Trophy, is also the 2017 National Number One in the British Cycling Youth Category B (Under 14) rankings.

That ranking was from a pool of 415 cyclists and he also finished last season with 375 points - 132 more than his nearest rival.

The Bingley Grammar School pupil performed well in the U14 Boys category at closed circuits, too, and at town centre races in Ilkley and Skipton.

From March, 2017 until the end of the season Jack won 18 events, finished second in 19 and came third in 11.

Two other Otley Cycle Club riders, Dexter Leeming-Sykes and George Radcliffe, also enjoyed podium success over the year - propelling them into the top 25 national standings.

Club President Liz Hills said: "Perhaps Jack can go on to emulate the success of local stars Lizzie Deignan, who is Otley Cycle Club’s Patron, and Tour de France rider Scott Thwaites, from Ilkley.

"Having three riders in the top 25 of the national rankings is a fantastic achievement, not matched by any other club in their category."
