BURLEY-in Wharfedale Parish Council is seeking residents views on a proposed zip wire for older children and where it should be located.

Following the refurbishment of Grange Park Children’s Play Area last year, there had been a proposal to install a zip wire for older children, and Grange Park had been suggested as a possible site for it. The proposal is for a 30m long wire with 3.6m support posts at either end.

However, the Council has received concerns from some residents and park users who believe a zip wire would be a detrimental impact on Grange Park which sits within a Conservation Area. The Council is happy to support the idea of a zip wire but also has reservations about locating it in Grange Park.

Other possible location in the village include: Victoria Park where, once the new Scout Hut is completed, could include additional play equipment. This is close to the village centre but also overlooked by several homes; Iron Row. which will have a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) as part of the wider recreational use of the fields. A zip wire here would not overlook any homes and would fit in with the proposed games area; or adjacent to the skateboard park on the recreation field, where there are already recreational facilities for older children.

Village residents are asked to email there views to: clerk@burleyparishcouncil.co.uk and these will be considered as part of the Parish Council discussions
