ILKLEY Christchurch Rainbows had a special visitor, when Gem the border collie and Barkers of Ilkley visited the group for a festive story telling session.

The Rainbows enjoyed a magical storytelling session lead by Kayleigh Butler, salon manager from Barkers of Ilkley, where they were read the Lily’s Kitchen ‘Gingerbread Dog’ Christmas book alongside the group leader’s dog, Gem.

Copies of the Lily’s Kitchen book were left with the group as a gift from Barkers. The book is available to buy in stores, with all proceeds going to the PDSA.

Kayleigh, said: “We had a fantastic time with the Rainbows and it was amazing to see how much they enjoyed being around Gem.

“There are many benefits to children of interacting with dogs, including reduced stress, enhanced self-esteem, and increased confidence, so it was great to be able to visit the group with the story and Gem.”

Liz Haestier, Rainbows leader, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Barkers of Ilkley for this festive story telling session.

“The Lily’s Kitchen Gingerbread Dog story is a lovely book, and the children absolutely loved meeting Gem!”
