A SERIES of Morris dancing workshops will start up in Pool-in-Wharfedale next month.

The local Great Yorkshire Morris side is holding the sessions, as part of its winter practice season, at Pool Village Hall from October through to December.

The 8pm to 10pm workshops will take place on the first Wednesday of each month - October 4, November 1 and December 6.

Admission costs £3 per person or £5 for a couple, with no charge for under 16s who are accompanied.

A Great Yorkshire Morris spokesman said: "Folk dancing is great fun, and a wonderful way to keep fit.

"We’re hoping that these workshops will lead to some new recruits.

"Morris dancing has been a part of English life for at least six hundred years, possibly even longer.

"The workshops will teach various styles of folk dancing, including Cotswold Morris (bells and hankies), Yorkshire Longsword (rigid swords), Rapper (bendy swords) and Northwest Clog.

"The evenings will culminate with a Ceilidh dance."
