THE innovative and expanding local male voice community singing group Sing Your Rocks Off have kicked off an ambitious project to raise money for Spinal Research.

They have booked the King’s Hall for a major concert to include Roger Davies – the folk sensation of Yorkshire, New Mill Male Voice Choir from the Holmfirth area, who have won significant awards and toured extensively in the UK and Europe and of course Ilkley’s very own Sing Your Rocks Off.

Ged Faricy, of Sing Your Rocks off and Robert Shelton, trustee of the national Spinal Research Charity have got together and hope to raise significant funds for this worthy cause. Ged said: “When I first met Rob, who is paralysed from the chest downwards, I was so impressed by his positive attitude to life given his situation. When he stated, quite simply, that he will walk again I was inquisitive to say the least. He then explained the outstanding research and development work carried out by the Spinal Research Charity and his significant involvement with the organisation and I thought we might be able to help.

"Planning is underway for this prestigious event in March 2018. In the meantime this is a rallying call to the fine upstanding men of Ilkley and its environs. If you feel that you would like to take part, and join us on stage in Ilkley’s wonderful King’s Hall, then you should join ‘Sing your rocks off’ at their weekly sessions. No previous musical or singing experience required and no need to read music; just a desire to sing, with an emphasis on fun and enjoyment. We work on the simple premise that all men can sing."

Sing Your Rocks Off meet every Wednesday evening at 7.45pm in the upstairs room at The Bowling Club in Ilkley. Just turn up there or contact Ged on 07833 937254 or ged@singyourrocksoff.co.uk (www.singyourrocksoff.co.uk)
